May 25-29 Week In Review (VXX, SBUX)

Here are some metrics and notes for the week.

Date EntrySecurityOptionCostDate SoldAmount ReceivedPer Contract Result
5/22/20VXXMay 29 $29 Put$0.11Expired$0.00-$0.11
5/27/20SBUXJune 19th $90 Call$0.065/28$0.05-$0.01
5/28XLFJune 5 $22.50 call0.175/290.20.03
Total-$0.09

Notes
- The first (VXX) trade was speculating on the idea that VXX hadn't moved. It was wrong.
- The second (SBUX) trade was a mistake. The purchase happened as expected but the sale was caught when the market dove for about 30 minutes. The quote was listed as $0.10 when the trade was executed but ended up at $0.05. Weird and not enjoyable. But we move forward.
- The third trade was a retracement play on the leg up that the banks made.

Apr 13-17 Results (VXX, SPY, NVDA)

The results from April 13-17 are below with notes.

Date EntrySecurityOptionCostDate SoldAmount ReceivedPer Contract Result
4/8/20VXXApr 17 $33 Put$0.134/14/20$0.16$0.03
4/14/20NVDAApr 24 $330 Call$0.394/16/20$1.60$1.21
4/15SPYApr 17 $251 Put$0.124/16$0.01-$0.11
$1.13

- The first trade was a technical trade on VXX (measures market volatility) bumping down against the $40 resistance level. The option price's time value decrease was close to matching the falling price of the index. So the sale at $0.16 took place.

- The Nvidia trade was a breakout trade. It took advantage of an extension in the breakout of price. The sale at $1.60 was a stop price.

- The SPY trade was a protective trade against a possible market downturn because of unemployment numbers and the Senate unable to pass another funding bill. It did not happen.

Profits will be going to charity, taxes (needed now more than ever), investors, and back into the account.

Some Notes

- The GE trade was made as positive news for the company in terms of ventilator manufacturing and cash position were profiled.
- The VXX trade was a speculative trade that basically didn't move.
- The DIA trade went wrong right after the trade was made.It was held overnight and the closing price is where it settled. This is one issue with stop losses overnight. Sometimes the security price can open below.
